Can i be sure that my jacket is warm enough for my winter hikes?
We developed your jacket for wintry conditions: cold, rain and snow. Insulation is provided by 200 g/sqm thick wadding on the body and 150 g/sqm on the arms (synthetic component that insulates thanks to the air trapped in its fibres). We’ve added an inner flap underneath the zip to stop cold air from entering. The toggle tightening at the jacket hem is the finishing touch to ensure your jacket is comfortable down to -10°.
How does my jacket protect me from outdoor conditions?
Your jacket is designed with a waterproof outer component that keeps out water and wind. To keep you warm in winter you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The warm hood, the Velcro fastenings at the cuffs and the high collar prevent the cold from entering. Two warm pockets in extremely soft fleece protect your hands from the cold.
Waterproofness of this jacket
The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t limited to just its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. As such, this waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, i.e. 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.
Component waterproofing of this jacket
The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H²0 (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket has a waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 5,000 mm H²O (Schmerbers) before washing.
A practical jacket with smart details
Lots of spaces to keep all your accessories safe and handy (tissues, keys, phone, etc.) during your hikes. Two lined pockets under a flap with a press stud fastening on the outside and a secure pocket with rip-tab fastening inside.A secure zip pocket also available on the chest.
How to preserve the technical qualities of my jacket?
A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to make water run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight, warm and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products (spray or liquid) for this purpose are available in our stores.
A cold weather jacket comfortable for everyday wear.
Jacket designed with sufficient volume inside so that a warm second layer such as fleece or light down can be worn. Its classic cut is ideal for protecting you from the cold and wind during your winter hikes on all types of terrains.
How to dress properly for snow hiking?
To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle:layer 1: The high-tech base layer transfers moisture away from the body to keep your skin dry.layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards.layer 3: The jacket protects you from the outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind. The whole outfit must be breathable in order to eliminate moisture.
