Product Reviews
Item arrived last Friday, bolts are missing brake caliper has marks on it. I have contacted customer services 4 days ago but not heard back. Really disappointed as I cannot fit until this is sorted
THESE WILL NEED MODDING IF YOU ARE NOT RUNNING AN 11 SPEED CASSETTE. This relates to how much you need to pull the brake to make it bite, basically an 11 speed bike will have brake housing that has more brake cable pull than a 10 or 9 speed, it’s to do with the brake lever and cable position inside the brake housing on the brake unit (there but you grab to brake). However, it’s dead easy. There are YouTube videos on how to do this but your options are a) shorten the cable pull either with the barrel adjuster or by pulling the actuator arm in slightly before you tighten the brake cable (not recommended because over time it will weaken the arms spring), or what I did b) drill a hole behind where the cable screw sits resulting in you threading the brake cable behind the screw rather than in front of it. This took a minute per brake calliper and they were fitted from scratch with the new rotas in about 20 minutes. Even though the cable is less than 1cm further in than its default position, the difference is night and day regarding the bite and how far you pull the brake towards the handle bar (maybe half way rather than touching the handle bars which is just dangerous and will be the case without the mod). The cable in this configuration will rub against a smooth part of the callipers housing but to me, considering this is designed for an 11 speed cassette and I’m running an old 9 speed Sora group set, this upgrade was worth every penny and that minor cable rub is a small price to pay. The way the cable screw sits, it will secure the brake cable nicely which was one of my concerns. Warning: the supplied pads whilst quiet do not have the stopping power of say Nuke Proof pads or Swiss Stop, but they are still better than standard mechanical disk brakes. The 3 star reviewer saying they needed constant adjustment might just have had pad wear. Cheap pads will fade quickly and absolutely need constant adjustment. You can buy a replacement actuator arm but these will cost nearly as much as one of the callipers and rotas, not worth it in my opinion. Apparently this ’mod’ is recognised by TRP as a legitimate mod although that’s 2nd hand information, I’ve no idea whether this will actually void your warranty. Obviously with any modification, make you secure everything correctly and tightly, and test the kit on some safe and quiet road, readjust as necessary and take care.
Wanted to upgrade my brakes without having to buy new shifters this was ideal Work really well and Decathlon's price is best on internet.
